Get involved in the Power of Stories tour

The Power of Stories is due to move to The Food Museum (previously The Museum of East Anglian Life) in Stowmarket in late May! Only a few weeks away! And we need support from the community to help make it a success.

T'Challa, Shuri and Okoye will spend the summer at the museum and the rest of the exhibition will be reimagined to work with the unique space and the museum's theme. We'd like Power of Stories to continue to be a platform for your stories, and to provide more opportunities for the public to hear more Black voices and to learn about local histories.

Here's what we're looking for at the moment…

Dining Heroes - With the main theme being food, we want you to suggest a Black hero of yours who can feature in the exhibition as part of a Dining with Heroes feature. Their names and story will be told as part of the installation and photos will be needed.

Community Cabinet - We're calling out for people to loan personal belongings for display in secure cabinets. The items will be changed throughout the exhibition run. So, think your grandmother's hat, your auntie's records, your great uncle's traditional scarf. Anything that links you to your African heritage.

Food Stories - Do you have any stories to share about food growing, community meals, celebrations centred around food, food justice, or farming? How about stories about the Black Panther breakfast clubs? Here's an example of the kind of story we'd love to hear about. Please send over a short email telling us what you can help us with, and we'll see if we can weave it into the exhibition and/ or into our forthcoming Black history education packs. Please be aware that there is no guarantee that we can include all stories, but we'll do our best!

Huge thanks to the teams at the Association for Suffolk Museums and The Food Museum who are all helping to make this happen! We can’t wait to get started.
