Aspire are pleased to be working with Marcus Harris–Noble and Suffolk Libraries to bring a “Dub Masterclass” and Q&A with Reggae and Dub legend Mad Professor at 7pm, Saturday July 13th 2024 at The Baths, Ipswich. This event is part of the British Library’s year - long celebration “Beyond the Bassline: 500 years of Black Music in Britain”
Neal Fraser a.k.a. Mad Professor is a living history of Dub music. Best known for his spaced-out sounds, deep basslines and impeccable output, he has remixed artists from Massive Attack to Sade and has been the connection between a new generation of musicians and fans and the pioneers of reggae and dub.
He has worked with Lee Scratch Perry, Desmond Dekker, Sly and Robbie, Horace Andy Jah Shaka and many more key artists over his career which spans almost 50 years. He has spent much of this time releasing music on Ariwa, his record label that has remained proudly independent throughout operating from Thornton Heath, deep in South London.
His work ethic is legendary, as his touring schedule, which sees him constantly criss-crossing the globe to perform live shows at festivals and in clubs on every continent for his truly global fanbase.
We are truly blessed to have Mad Professor sharing his knowledge with us before his live dubbing gig. He will be demonstrating dub techniques and sharing his reflections on his life and career with Marcus Harris–Noble.
You will also have the opportunity to ask questions to directly to Mad Professor before he “Dubs us Crazy” once the gig starts.
