Wow, what an evening! As part of our commitment to celebrating Black excellence, we traded our usual Christmas gathering for something truly special a trip to London to attend the FutureEd event. The night was nothing short of extraordinary, showcasing the achievements of professionals, educators, leaders, artists, and changemakers who are driving real, tangible change.
From the inspiring hosts to the creative artists and authors, the room was alive with the energy of people shaping a brighter, more equitable future. As a Black woman, I’m no stranger to the challenges of intersectionality navigating complex experiences in both personal and professional life. Yet, on Saturday, the atmosphere was filled with joy, pride, and power.
This event was a reminder of how refreshing change is. Growing up in the late '70s and early '80s, my Blackness often felt like a barrier. Representation was rare, and navigating those years wasn’t easy. Now, in my 50s, I can reflect with pride. Saturday left me in awe of the young people who have access to leaders like those celebrated that evening, leaders who prioritise representation, achievement, and anti-racism.
It’s inspiring to think how lucky these young people are to see themselves reflected in schools, colleges, and community spaces. Representation truly matters, and it’s a privilege to witness this shift.
At Aspire, we’re more motivated than ever to bring that same energy and consciousness to Suffolk. It’s time to create opportunities for our young people to thrive and to ensure their stories are part of this wave of change.
Here’s to a future filled with joy, pride, and progress!
