Black Men in Business: Celebrating an Unforgettable Evening of Empowerment

Last week, Aspire Black Suffolk proudly hosted our Black Men in Business event, and what an incredible night it was! Held in the heart of our community, this special gathering brought together a powerful lineup of speakers, enthusiastic attendees and local entrepreneurs for an evening full of inspiration, learning and connection.

A Fantastic Panel

Our panel did not disappoint. Hosted by the brilliant Eli Turay, a BBC producer and lecturer, the evening was brought to life through podcast-style conversations that struck a perfect balance of insight and authenticity. Joining him were:

Julian Hall - Shared his personal journey and the inspiration behind founding Ultra Education CIC, highlighting why empowering young people through entrepreneurship remains his mission.

Nathan Geering - Brought energy and wisdom from his work as a martial artist, stuntman and accessibility advocate, touching on his experience working with the legendary Jackie Chan.

Ashley Hickson-Lovence - Delivered a heartfelt talk about his journey as a black author, including the challenges he's overcome and the importance of representation in literature and education.

Each panellist brought unique experiences and perspectives that resonated deeply with the audience.

Memorable Moments

We're excited to share three highlight clips from the evening:

  • Ellisha Soanes encouraging attendees to connect and network, leading to powerful introductions from audience members.

  • Ashley sharing the realities of being a black author.

  • Julian reflecting on his story and passion for inspiring young minds.

These moments captured the spirit of the event, real, empowering and community-driven.

Supporting Local Black Businesses

The event featured stalls from local black-owned businesses, showcasing creativity, resilience and entrepreneurship. From handmade products to professional services, attendees had a chance to connect with inspiring vendors.

We also enjoyed delicious food from The Food Plug, whose flavours were a true highlight of the evening.

A Heartfelt Thanks

This event was a huge success, and we are incredibly grateful to Ellisha Soanes for bringing together such a brilliant lineup of speakers and making the evening possible. The energy, honesty, and unity on display made this a truly special moment for Aspire Black Suffolk.

What's Next?

Stay tuned as we continue to build spaces where black excellence is celebrated, stories are shared, and future leaders are inspired. For now, we reflect on this achievement with pride and an excitement for what comes next.
